With extremely poor weather, stiff winds and tough competition, the girls’ track team from Depew kept it close against division rival East Aurora. It was a narrow victory for EA with a score of 73.5 to 67.5 and final results known only after the relays. The triple jump team of Allie Radka, Abby Depczynski and Ashley Krol swept as did the high jump team of Depczynski, Kim Obermeier and newcomer Joelle Kaczmarek. Once again the ladies earned multiple first places. Eighth grader Jen Wasielewski won the pole vault but due to the weather had to stop after 7’6”. Junior captain Stephanie Peterson won both the shot put and discus. Sophomore speedster Kim Obermeier handled the 100 and the WNY ranked 400 relay team of Obermeier, Krol, Jenna Majka and Jill Sosnowski were successful. Long jump winner Sosnowski also placed second in both the 100 and 200 meter. Hurdler Natalie Vona took a second in the 400 hurdles while Vona and Sarah Fullington had a 2-3 in the high hurdles.
The team will finish their division competition at home against Tonawanda and then prepare for a very tough Lancaster opponent. |
