The girls varsity soccer team ended its' regular season yesterday with a convincing 9-0 victory over Cheektowaga. Sophmore Rachel Banasik continued her goal scoring streak, adding four more yesterday to give her a total of 23 on the seaon. 8th grader Sarah Turner added 2 goals. Defender Ashlee Guay moved up to a forward position and scored twice, and Junior Emily Bakkila finished the scoring with her second goal of the season. Seniors Stacie Mertowski, and Kim Marlinski both registered assists on the day, while 8th grade Kim Obermeier led the team assisting on 3 goals.
The girls finished their regular season play with a record of 5-7-0. At the begining of the season the girls were not comfortable with each other or how they played. As the season progressed you could see in the results of the games as they were much more comfortable with each other. Their three seniors, Kim Marlinski, Stacie Mertowski, and Danielle Savaglia showed great leadership within the team this year. Sophmore Rachel Banasik led them in goals with 23, which placed her in 2nd place in the division. When sectional playoffs came around at the end of the season the Lady Wildcats had to face division rival Pioneer. They were unable to beat Pioneer, losing 2-0. Although the team lost they will not hang their heads becasue they know that they tried their hardest and had a successful season. |
